Whether it's hiking, touring, golfing horseback riding, sailing, swimming or the arts, you will be sure to find something fun and exciting to do in Victoria.
  • The Victoria area boasts more than 10,000 hectares of green space included in regional, provincial and national parklands and explains why it is called the "Greenways Capital of Canada".  As well, the Victoria area has many public and private gardens that are open for viewing pleasure.  The "City of Gardens" hosts its annual flower count in the early spring and the city blossoms from there.  Beacon Hill Park, Abkhazi Gardens, Thunderbird Park, Fisherman's Wharf Park and Goldstream Park include just a few possible areas to explore.
  • Hike or bike the Galloping Goose Trail, a 60 km trail that extends from View Royal through Langford, Colwood, Metchsoin and Sooke.  The trail was named after a 1920's gasoline powered passenger car that operated on this abandoned CNR line.
  • Visit world renowned Butchart Gardens.  The garden began in 1904 when Jennie Butchart began planning flowers and shrubs around her home.  It now covers over 130 acres and includes over 300,000 bulbs.  Its many highlights include the Sunken Garden, once a limestone quarry, the Ross Fountain's night lighting display, magnificent flower beds with their mixture of size and colour and the Japanese Garden.  Stroll the Gardens and stay into the evening for the music and fireworks show that starts at dusk.
  • Plan a tour of Craigdarroch Castle.  This is a beautiful, historic, Victorian-era mansion built in the 1890s by wealthy BC coal baron Robert Dunsmuir.  A self-guided tour takes you up the 87 stairs and through the 4 1/2 stories.  You will visit each of the 39 rooms, most of which are furnished lavishly in the 1890s–1900s period.
  • If you prefer horseback riding, there are a number of riding stables and dude ranches around Victoria, including Aspen Park Stables and Peninsula Trail Rides.  Or, you can watch standard bred horse racing at Sandown Park Raceway.
  • Take some time to visit the many art galleries in and around Victoria.  Whether you are looking for oil, acrylic or water colours, pottery, wood carvings or jewelry, you are sure to discover something you like made by a BC artist.
  • Victoria is home to a local symphony and opera company as well as theatre and dance troupes.  Classical, jazz, folk, ethnic and world beat music fill a variety of venues throughout the year.
  • Play a round of golf at one of the many golf courses in the area.  Travel and Leisure magazine has voted Vancouver Island the #1 Island destination in North America and the #3 island destination in the world. Victoria, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, is home to some of the best golf courses in North America.
  • And if shopping is more your thing, spend time browsing through the many delightful shops downtown or in the neighbouring villages that offer one-of-a-kind products.
  • For fishing, whale watching or something more adventurous, be sure to book a charter with one of the many tour groups in the area.
